Workplace mentor for professional development

“Extraordinary things begin to happen when we dare to bring all of who we are to work. We learn to let go & listen to the life that wants to be lived through us, through our work & purpose.”

Laloux F (2014:45-6) Re-inventing Organisations. Nelson Parker.

I am a freelance workplace mentor hired by organisations across, corporate, public and third sectors to boost knowledge sharing, cross-team collaboration, employee engagement and to work with staff to create strategies & processes to manage workplace pressures & expectations.

Since covid, my mentoring supports more sustainable digital working strategies and employee wellbeing. While many businesses have in-house professional development teams, those who contract me, show bold leadership, working to bring my critically constructive lens to workplace practices, to grow stronger intergenerational working partnerships, healthier relationships & a more connected and workplace culture.

My workplace mentoring is informed in part by the three core principles of Teal organisations (Laloux F, 2014) Self-management, wholeness and evolutionary purpose. These contemporary organisational principles move away from outdated traditional hierarchical organisational structures, towards more human-centric, purpose-driven and agile working approaches. I nurture a deepening mind-set which focuses on refining existing skills, understanding & discernment rather than necessarily pursuing constant expansion.

Professional development discovery workshops

Alongside my workplace mentor role, the bespoke professional development discovery workshops I host are designed for people to enjoy, relax, collaborate and reflect whilst expressing their creative potential in a safe & supportive environment.

Organisations can benefit from my current range of workshops which support practice led engagement with sustainable wellbeing agendas, body intelligence and organisational storytelling. All workshop content is informed by contemporary industry subject related theory & practice.

Body intelligence, body integrity

Physical body intelligence, body integrity & somatic work involves utilizing techniques like Mindfulness, conscious breathing, body scans, grounding techniques and mindful movement which enable you to focus on present moment awareness, using breath to anchor you into your body and bring about a more relaxed, calm and peaceful state. It can involve simple yogic stretching exercises to compliment it.

This presence based and embodied approach promotes a holistic way of working with the mind, heart & body in the workplace. The aim of my discovery workshop provision for wellbeing, provides simple working solutions for people to remember to re-connect and notice bodily sensations occurring in the workplace. Such strategies can enhance employee’s psychological safety & self-awareness when managing their mental health and wellbeing.

Organisational storytelling

Organisational Storytelling is a narrative process that reveals key cultural moments and decisions that have influenced staff, shaped communities of practice and continue to define business culture. This process offers participants the opportunity to reflect on and share meaningful authentic accounts of their lived experiences in the workplace. It can also challenge existing assumptions within both the workplace culture and the wider organisation.

By harnessing the collective power of these stories, organisations can uncover previously overlooked priorities that require attention. Ultimately, the aim is to evolve and adapt the organisational culture – through the voices and experiences of all employees with consideration of its values and mission.

Testimonials

Viv engaged in a short term consultancy which enabled me and the rest of the leadership team (outside of the appraisal framework) to identify existing talent in our organization, retain it and encourage growth. We valued Viv’s professional insights which came from observing four of our departmental teams (28 staff) during Escape Room’s activities. Her fresh pair of eyes & professional judgments enabled us to help individuals identify and leverage their unique talents to achieve personal and professional success; focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses to enhance productivity, engagement and overall wellbeing.
HR Dept. Highbury & Islington, London
I employed Viv to work on a one to one basis with a key leader in our organisation whose motivation had lapsed. From an organisational perspective, improvements in cross functional collaboration were identified and addressed. Whilst Viv’s coaching re-motivated this leader, he finally left the organisation. Viv’s coaching taught us to be supportive of an employee whose work in our organisation had come to a natural end, supporting him to progress into new employment.

Viv has a creative and intuitive flair for connecting right to the heart of the issue. She helped me gain insights into what I have to offer the world, my job and what I want from life. During Viv’s coaching, I made significant shifts in my thinking and life planning & have found myself happier and more professionally fulfilled at work as a result.
Professor of Medical Statistics
Working with Viv has been a dream. I highly recommend her professional, creative approach to coaching our team. It’s ideal for our sector. We thank Viv enormously for her capacity to motivate and inspire new ways of working both individually and collaboratively. We will be using Viv again in the future when the need arises.
Director, Global Design & Marketing Company
Viv showed a huge amount of sensitivity and skill, able to draw out the options for change and help me see these possibilities, without influencing the eventual decision I made. She was not only supportive in helping me to come to terms with my redundancy but helped me make the transition out of my previous 17 year career into a new one of my choice.
